The brief asked us to consider the design of a library within the environmental and social contexts of a chosen site in Rome, Italy. I chose the Piazza de San Cosimato, a socially vibrant and youthful neighborhood in the heart of Trastevere. I recognised an opportunity to create a new rejuvenated urbanity within the neighborhood, one that emphasised community and family values. This is my design for San Cosimato Children’s library, an open and inclusive library that hopes to foster a joy for learning through a playful and welcoming environment, and cultivate strong social and communal relations.
